Travel Guide to… Kirkby Lonsdale

Our ‘Travel Guide to…’ blogs aim to help you get the most out of seeing a new town or village and provide you with information about some of the best local activities, independent shops, eateries and hotels.

Where to eat and drink

Kirkby Lonsdale has some excellent cafés but our favourite is The Crossing Point Café which does excellent hearty breakfasts, epic hot chocolates and a wide range of cakes and bakes. The Royal Barn attached to Kirkby Lonsdale brewery has a huge choice of locally made beers which are served alongside wood fired pizzas.

Where to sleep

Along with there being a plethora of holiday cottages, we like the traditional feel of The Royal Hotel which is an elegant townhouse that has chic guest rooms, a modern bar and a free cooked breakfast.

Where to shop

Chocolat is an excellent place to take home a sweet souvenir or maybe you need a new book for your trip. The Book Lounge is a quaint shop that has an extensive variety of new and used books, gifts and stationery. You can even enjoy a coffee here too.

What to do

Take a walk down to Devil’s Bridge, and follow the footpath along the River Lune where you can skim stones on the beaches and enjoy a paddle. The route takes you back into the village via the Radical Steps which were constructed in the 1820s.
